Simple and Delicious Tomato Basil Pasta


  • 300g (10 oz) spaghetti or your favorite pasta
  • 4 large ripe tomatoes, chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese


1. Cook the Pasta:

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside, reserving 1 cup of the pasta water.

2. Prepare the Sauce:

  • While the pasta is cooking, heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and cook for about 1 minute until the garlic is fragrant.
  • Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan and cook for 5-7 minutes until they start to break down and release their juices. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

3. Combine Pasta and Sauce:

  • Add the cooked pasta to the pan with the tomato sauce. Toss to combine, adding a bit of the reserved pasta water if needed to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Stir in the chopped basil and cook for another 1-2 minutes until the pasta is well coated with the sauce.

4. Serve:

  • Divide the pasta among serving plates. Top with grated Parmesan cheese and a few extra basil leaves for garnish. Serve immediately.
